Course Description
Annuities: Introduction, Taxation, Regulation and Application offers a basic understanding of how annuities work, the differences between the types of annuities, how annuities are taxed, and what type of purchaser each type of annuity may be best suited for with regard to financial goals, objectives, and risk tolerances.
The course begins with an overview of annuities and discusses the different components of both fixed and variable annuities. It also gives the reader more in-depth details on how annuities may be funded as well as information on the immediate and deferred pay out options.
The course then offers more specific details on each of the differing pay out options such as straight life, period certain, joint life, and joint and survivor and it provides a guide as to why an annuity holder may or may not prefer certain of these choices.
In addition, a discussion of the vast difference between fixed and variable annuities is also offered as well as how the more recent offering of equity indexed annuities came into being and what the primary features of such an annuity include.
The course concludes with a discussion of how annuities are both taxed and regulated. This includes information on the suitability issues that annuities face in terms of the duties of insurance companies and agents, compliance, and accurate record keeping.
